Asda is a division of American company Walmart, and there are currently 15 main Asda distribution centres in the UK. These depots are used to store the goods before they go to individual Asda stores.
Suppliers of ambient, chilled and fresh food as well as non-food items such as homewares are allocated orders to go to these distribution centres and they employ thousands of permanent and temporary workers in the UK.
Asda has strong roots in Yorkshire, with market dominance in several towns and cities in the north of England and Scotland. Formed as a merger of Asquith and Associated Dairies, the name Asda derives from the AS of ‘associated’ and the DA of ‘dairies’.
