Dave to peddle through the pain in charity ride across Zambia
A logistics Consultant and Director who has a long association with our Directors is gearing up to cycle across the Republic of Zambia to help raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for industry charity Transaid, having recently overcome a knee injury.
Dave Howarth, who is being sponsored by The NX Group as part of this challenge, is one of 43 riders from the industry who are set to ride 480km, from the Zambian capital Lusaka to the Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean border, later this month.
Dave said, “I’ve made this even more of a challenge for myself after I tore the cartilage in my knee a few weeks ago. I’ve had to rest up for a bit, which means I’ve been way behind with my training, but I’m back on the bike now and should soon be match-fit.”
This is the second Transaid bike ride Dave has been on in 18 months, having ridden through South Africa in March 2017 to help raise more than £227,000. Transaid, an international development charity supported the by logistics and transport industry, uses local transport solutions to improve and save the lives of people in sub-Saharan African countries.
Dave continued, “Transaid is a very good cause, helping people in the poorest, remotest parts of Africa, and it feels great to be giving to those in need through the industry in which I’ve worked all my life. We’re aiming to raise even more than we did in South Africa, and are hoping to gather donations from throughout the transport and logistics industry and beyond.”
Neil Powell, Managing Director of The NX Group, said, “Dave is undertaking a momentous challenge, especially after hurting his knee, and we’re very proud to be supporting him in his efforts. Transaid is a great charity that represents the best of our industry, and we wish him and his fellow riders all the best.”
Transaid is a UK based charity which raises money for and deploys resources in sub-Saharan Africa to save lives through better transport facilities. To help support Transaid, you can donate towards Dave’s ride by visiting: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/dave-sue-howorth
