Our Finance Director Russell Powell is looking back at his time with the firm, after five years of working to build solid foundations and using his commercial financial background to help the company achieve a secure position in the industry.
“From working for a major bookseller and retailer, I had a fair bit of experience working in a large, complex organisation,” explained Russell, who joined the firm in August 2013, “and from this good grounding I have set up systems that will stand this company in good stead and allow us to expand.”
Russell, who is from Leicestershire, runs the company with his brother Neil Powell, Managing Director, and was invited to join by their father Michael Powell, the Chairman. “I was a bit apprehensive of joining at first,” recalls Russell, “ as it was a major step for me, and was a lot of responsibility to take on, in terms of our many staff, and in terms of our important clients and their services.
“Five years on however, we’re now looking to take the business to the next level, perhaps diversifying, expanding our fleet and warehousing space and we’re also hoping to work with more European hauliers in the run-up to the big changes which may be coming to the industry next year.”
